SPOTTED: Toy Fair Round Up – Part I

Oh the toys!  It’s enough to make my head spin.  Some of my favorites and what I presume to be my kid’s favorites toys this upcoming season include:

Coming this summer 2011 – DaGeDar™.  I don’t know what draws me to toys like this.  It’s a simple idea that’s so much fun!  I actually think this is right up my husband’s alley and of course my soon to be 7 year old big boy.  Players must control the speed and velocity of DaGeDar™ balls in order to propel them through thrilling loops and turns without forcing the balls off of the tracks. Exciting tricks and stunts can be refined by whirling DaGeDar™ balls in Spinners or loading several balls into a carrying case to unleash them with supercharged battle play. The ball with the most speed and skill to reach the end of the track first wins! Part competitive racing game and part tricks, stunts and skills, I can see DaGeDar™ occupying hours and hours of play in our house.

We love KidCraft’s Pirate Sandboat bringing the beach to a backyard near you.  It comes with a sun canopy perfect for keeping your kids and sand cool.  With 3 kids and a hot summer ahead of us, this is PERFECT!

I can’t believe that it took someone this long to come up with this, the Fisher Price iCan Play for your iPod Touch or iPhone.  This “toy” is designed for your tech loving baby.  It comes with the ever so brilliant covered home button cause we can all identify with the even annoying exit from their favorite app. It has large handles for easy gripping, colorful rings for chewing and a mirror on the back.  The baby can slobber away on this moisture resistant toy.  At $14.99 this is a steal!  Fisher Price also has a slew of fun apps for the 6 months and up set that goes perfectly with the iCan Play.

Hello Kitty is definitely taking the toy world by storm!  I saw Hello Kitty plushes every where I turned, accessories and my must have, Hello Kitty laptop cases.  She even makes an appearance at my favorite Mega Bloks booth.  I totally wanted to take her home with me.

Speaking of Mega Bloks, they’ve got so many new products I can’t even begin to touch on all my wants and needs.  Despite my son’s Construction themed party being long over, I couldn’t help oooh-ing and ahhhh-ing over their Lil Builder 25 piece bucket and all their other construction sets.  We’re also totally digging their new packaging.  They’ve tried to incorporate play and storage into each package.  I know many moms will be grateful for that.  My 7 year old would go nuts for the car builds.  They come with matching keys that look like the real thing.  Their new line of games has me in awe.  What will they come up with next?  The pieces play as part of a game but can do equal duty out of the box too.  The toddler is gaga over Domino Build Game and Memory Builder.

The designer in me loves Automoblox and their new line X9X Sport Utility vehicles, trucks and race cars.  I don’t know that I’d necessarily play with it and most definitely with my 1 and 3 year old always getting into things, this thing of beauty needs to be out of arms reach for awhile.  It would look real nice on my shelf though.

Our 7 year old is just getting into Legos now and I was pleasantly surprised by all their new offerings.  We had bypassed their Duplo line of toys opting for Mega Bloks due to their lack of toy selection.  They’ve up-ed the anty this year with their Duplo Zoo and Play with Letters.   I also learned that this line is completely compatible with the older traditional line of Legos, so the toys can grow up alongside your kids.  I had no idea!  If the eldest child has no desire to share, that’s okay, there’s something for everyone.  I was drawn to the Lego City line.  Perhaps it was the architect in me but what a dream!
