Spend the Evening at Medieval Times

With Spring break in full force, we are on a staycation this week. While there is always plenty to do in and around the NY area, we decided to take the boys somewhere that they haven’t really been before – the Medeival era! Tucked away in Lyndenhurt, NJ, there is a castle where tourists and locals alike can be entertained by knights in armour jousting, horses cantering, and even a falcon flying overhead. Medieval Times provides dining and entertainment that the whole family can enjoy and it’s a fun way to spend some quality time without breaking the bank. Whether you want to celebrate a special event or are just looking for a fun night out with your friends, they have several ticket packaging options for you to choose from.
From the moment guests step foot into the castle, they are taken back in time, where the excitement of the king’s court can be felt in the air. Everyone has a knight to cheer for and all the ladies and lords that enter the castle can feel the excitement.
Once seated, guests are served a full 4-course meal in pewter dishes, intentionally eaten without utensils, much like in actual medieval times. The food is filling and the show is quite entertaining. We caught our kids cheering and yelling for their knight to win and the action kept them at the edges of their seats.  The atmosphere was filled with excitement, the show was entertaining, and the characters made the overall experience one that the entire family will remember for years to come.

Some things to know about heading to Medieval Times: It pays to get there early. I was surprised to see a line already formed when we arrived to the castle an hour early. I came to find out that with general admission, comes first come-first serve seating. Therefore, if you want to ensure that your party gets up close and personal, you may want to get there a little bit before show time. There is also a VIP ticket option that can be purchased to ensure your wait time is reduced.  Don’t worry about killing time while you’re waiting, though, there are several places inside the castle that you can venture in to, be it a tour of the dungeon, the bar for some libations, or you can head to the main room and grab some gear to transform into a knight or princess yourself!  There are collectables, light up swords, stuffed dragons, goblets and more for purchase that will continue to enhance your experience.
Overall, I would suggest you check out Medieval Times with your friends or family, as it is certainly an experience to remember. Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament proved that dinner theater and chivalry still exist, right in your own backyard!
