Ready for a Swashbuckling Good Time at #Tuckerton Seaport’s Privateers & Pirates Festival

PiratesMy family is practically born with sea legs.  There is nothing more we love than being near the water.  Most of our trips, if not all, involve some sort of water and seafood.  When I was invited to come and check out Tuckerton Seaport’s Privateers & Pirates Festival on June 7th with my family, I couldn’t say yes fast enough.  While we’ve never been to Tuckerton, the word Seaport following had us falling in love right away.  It’s just a hop, skip and away on the beautiful Jersey Shore and makes the perfect weekend getaway.  It couldn’t be more appropriately time as my kids are huge Peter Pan and of course, Jake and the Neverland Pirates fans.  They can be found mocking sword fights and making treasure maps on any given day.  The weekend promises to be filled with fun and the parents can’t wait to fill their bellies with delicious seafood!

Screen Shot 2012-09-16 at 10.11.23 AMIn anticipation, the kids and I have been going over some of the highlights of the Festival and here are some of our favorites:

  • Pose on the Plank
  • Cannon Demo: Watch how to handle and fire a cannon. Volunteers will be needed to join the gun crew. Don’t be scared by the big BOOM at the end.
  • Scurvy Mutineers Sword Fight Show: A live steel combat show complete with action and laughs. Volunteers will be selected from the audience to join the mutiny.
  • Whip Show: Things will really heat up as tricks and skills are shown.
  • Pirate Pistol Duello Show: A stage show of how a friendly game of Liars Dice can go terribly wrong. Learn how pirates settle an argument.
  • American Water Puddles Van: Learn about water conservation, where the water locally comes from, how the water is treated and play interactive games where you can estimate your daily water usage
  • Watch the Parrot Pirate Party with a Parrot that Talks
  • Pirate Food Court
  • Make-and-Take Crafts
  • Treasure Hunt sponsored by Fantasy Island Plus, Pirate Ship Bounce House included with Admission!

Oh yes there is so much fun to be had!  The kids are super excited for their first camping experience.  I’m a mess having never done camping before, and with a baby in tow too! You can bet I’ll be trying to make it a “glamping” experience at the Sea Pirate Campground but nonetheless, the excitement from the kidlets is palpable.  I may need reinforcements though – just sayin (wink wink).  Some lobster tails and clam strips will do.  Oh and did you say there’s a pool. Fab!
