Myrtle Beach Take II

{ disclosure: I was invited to a Media FAM trip hosted by Vacation Myrtle Beach. Our accommodations were complimentary, all other costs incurred were our very own. As always all opinions expressed here are our very own! }

Quite a few years ago, one less child ago, we had a fun little road trip down to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. While it was fun, it was far from memorable and of what I do remember, it wasn’t a destination I felt I wanted to come back to again. Jogging my memory from our old post, I was surprised by how different our experience was this time. Both my husband and I definitely felt like this trip definitely had the last one beat, even if there wasn’t any golfing while we were there.

The view from up top Crown Reef Resort in Myrtle Beach, SC.Starting off with the most important thing of all, accommodations. We had a choice of staying at any of the 14 amazing properties owned by Vacation Myrtle Beach and we chose Crown Reef Resort for its many family-friendly amenities that I thought my 3 young children and au pair would enjoy the most. It wasn’t the easiest of decisions as each of their 14 resorts had their own little perks, but I could see that there definitely was a resort for everyone whether you’re a couple, a very young family, a foodie, sports enthusiast or golfer, or even a large family like my own. My biggest tip is to check out their website and sort through their extensive list of amenities and let them narrow down the choices for you. They have everything covered from indoor/outdoor whirlpools, waterparks, mini golf, bowling, lazy rivers, arcades, tennis, sauna, ice cream shop… and so much more.

I chose the Crown Reef Resort for it’s awesome four-story oceanfront waterpark, home to the world’s first hotel “EXPLOSION” slide as well as a TWISTER body slide, KIDZ Twister slide, the longest lazy river in Myrtle Beach at 575 feet long, and a fun indoor pool play area which I knew my kids would go crazy over. Perfect all year around, even though we were lucky to arrive right into some beautiful weather and have some time spent on the beach, it was just what the doctor ordered when the stars set in for the night.

Had enough of the miles of pristine beach and water? Check out their on-site Town Center which features Swirl Ice Cream and Sweet Shop, Loco Gecko Beach Shak Restaurant, Grab n’ Go Grill and Coffee Bar, Game On! and Winner’s Circle. It’s the one-stop location for families on vacation, you don’t even need to leave the property. Stop on by for a quick bite to eat, grab a coffee and head out to the beach for an early-morning walk or plan a family night out including games in their arcade, dinner at the ever poppin Loco Gecko and ice cream for dessert.

Who doesn't love a little creative towel arrangement?We stayed in the Oceanfront Suite which by hotel standards, is massive at approximately 552 square feet and able to accommodate up to 8 people with two queen size beds, a double-size murphy bed, sleeper sofa, full kitchen with full size fridge, stove and microwave, TV in the bedroom and living room, one bathroom, hairdryer, iron and private oceanfront balcony. I was amazed at the efficiency of the layout and how it accommodated my family so well. Both my husband and I with our two youngest claimed the 2 queen beds in the front of the suite. Separated by the kitchen and bathroom in the center (think train like apartment), the murphy bed and sleeper was perfect for our au pair and daughter who loved their private oceanfront balcony. What’s even more unbelievable is that rates start from as little as $49 a night!

If you chose to venture off the property, and really you don’t even have to with everything you need right there on-site, included with your stay is the super VALUABLE VMB card. Call it the Vacation Myrtle Beach card or the Vacation Member Benefits card, it’s just awesome. Right on the back of your resort key card so you can’t forget it. This card was our very own guide to exploring Myrtle Beach and all those sites we missed the first visit. Stay tuned for our next post on WHAT TO DO IN MYRTLE BEACH.
