Drop in anytime, anywhere with Dropcam!

Once upon a time, having real time remote access to your home was something you only saw on Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous.  We use to watch in awe as some homes were able to have their lights turned on via timer.  Even in the times of Nanny cams, you were only able to review the footage afterwards and not in real time.  My family recently had an alarm system installed and one of their features was access to a live camera wired into our network.  This was not a cheap investment either.  When my aunt asked me to look into a system for her primarily so she could check in on her babies (her two puppies), I had a hard time swallowing a recommendation for an entire alarm system that included the expensive live camera.

Screen Shot 2013-07-31 at 2.04.13 PMWhen I discovered Dropcam at CE Week, it was perfect!  It had everything she needed without an entire ordeal of an alarm system consultation, installation and monthly fees.  I couldn’t believe it!  What’s even more amazing is how easy it was to install.  My non-technological aunt could have done it herself, although she did ask me to do it for her anyway.

Straight out of the box, there was nothing more than a power cable, a computer cable and the camera.  It was plug and play easy.  I just started her laptop, plugged the camera into her USB port and followed a few simple steps to connect the camera to her network.  Once connected, I simply disconnected the camera from the computer and could place the Dropcam anywhere she wanted!  She wanted it directly in view of her puppies cage so she could check in on them while at work.  What she loved most about the camera was when viewing on the web, she was able to speak through the camera to them.  Even more, she loved that she could check in on them on her iPhone in full HD too!

{ disclosure:  As a member of the media attending CE Week, I received a Dropcam in my goodie bag.  I was so impressed with this little dynamo, I simply had to share! }
