The @BronxZoo Children’s Zoo is Back!

Going to the zoo is always an adventurous experience for my kids. Being up close and personal with all of those wild animals that reside so close to home is a sight to see. My kids are always excited to take a trip to the Bronx Zoo, and now that the Children’s Zoo has re-opened it’s doors, there is even more to look forward to.IMG_5180
The Children’s Zoo, located within the Bronx Zoo, allows even the littlest animal fans to get so close to so many unique animals that they can literally reach out and touch them. On the day that we visited to check out the Children’s Zoo, my boys were taken on an animal adventure where (through #ZooQuests – Adventure Club)  they got backpacks with binoculars and were given a tour of the new and improved children’s zoo.  They both got to check out the popular prairie dogs in their natural habitat and had a blast crawling through tunnels and popping their heads through the clear tubes to get an  up close and personal view.
Moving further into the Children’s Zoo, the kids discovered the arachnids and got to climb on a life-sized spiderweb, which my five-year-old thought was pretty cool.

They also got to check out the turtles and fish swimming under water and the  flamingos lounging out with by the water.  Taking the bridge over to the petting zoo,  my son fell in love with a goat that he was able to hand feed and pump water for.  He even asked me if we could take home one of the donkeys that came to greet us. For my two-year-old who appeared intimidated by the larger animals the roosters, chickens and geese were just his size and he enjoyed being able to sit right near them and watch them waddle around.IMG_5480IMG_5215
The Bronx Zoo – Children’s Zoo has so many hands on activities, that allow the children many opportunities to explore and understand the animals around them.  From the giant tree house slide, to becoming a turtle with a shell on your back, there is something for kids of any age.  The Children’s Zoo is perfect for the youngsters that are curious about animals and want a hands-on experience in the heart of such a memorable wildlife experience. My boys keep asking me when they will be able to go back to the children’s zoo so that they can “sit in The life-size nest like the birds” and “become spiders once again.”
