RUN DIARY: Training Right #VZWBuzz

One of my goals has always been to run the Disney Princess Half Marathon. Not only is it a HALF MARATHON but it’s one where I get to dress up and wear a crown! I mean seriously, how fun is that!?! While it was always one of my goals, I feel like I am finally working on it. Ever since my participation in the #MiracleMarathon I have been on a roll! I started out with running 1 mile a day for 27 days and it was pretty awesome! Towards the end I even started throwing in 2 mile days here and there. I had to give myself a pat on the back for that! I did get stuck at the 2 mile mark for a bit. Perhaps it was that my route was boring, but it because pretty cyclical and my goal was literally just to make it to my doorstep at the 2 mile mark… YAY! I finally broke the 3 mile mark yesterday and it was easier than doing 2 miles, amazing!

TURN YOUR MILES (RED) 2Tonight I am taking a break. I had a long day at work and I’ve ran every day for the last week. I think I earned a day off. Tomorrow I start my official half marathon training where 3 miles a day will become my norm with one day a week hitting that 5 mile mark. For me the distance isn’t the problem, of course I run into the exhaustion and heavy legs at some point into my run but I realize running is very mental. I can definitely motivate myself to run longer distances and many times I can also slow myself down as well. My motivation for the #MiracleMarathon was simple and easy enough to carry my through all 27 days.  My venture into the world of running was making an impact.  With the #MiracleMarathon complete, I’ve jumped on the Charity Mile campaign as well as the the Bank of America/Nike (RED) campaign where once again, each of my miles does good, not just for my own health, but others as well.  It’s a powerful motivation for me.  Once I figured that out, how to mentally psych myself out, the real issue of time was one that I needed to overcome. What started as a 10-15 minute a day commitment has now went from 20 minutes to 35 minutes a day now to complete my 3 mile run. It was certainly easy enough to find 15 minutes in the day after the kids had gone to bed, to run and clear my head. Even 20 minutes wasn’t too bad, but as my runs get longer, that mommy guilt of being away too long is rough. On one of my 2 mile runs, the kids were asleep, so was my father in law, the only other adult home at the time, so I took the liberty of putting on my sneakers and taking my run. The minute I opened the door, running from my run, I heard full on sobbing from my baby who lord only knows how long he was crying for, but he was a complete hot, sobbing, hyperventilating, shaking, throwing up from crying mess. And I felt awful! My father in law was sound asleep, as was my older two children, and not one person stirred.  He must of felt abandoned, my sweet little Luca.  I’ve now made provisions to ensure this doesn’t happen again.  I will never go on a run without knowing that an adult is actually still awake and listening to the baby monitor in case one of my babies wakes up and needs a little comforting.  I’ve realized that this time is important for me, not just health wise, but mentally as well.

runninggearKeeping me on track is my powerhouse of a phone my HTC One Remix (image taken with). It’s the perfect running companion, not just for the size but it’s power.  With my added 64GB microSD card expanding its memory, I have my music library loaded onto my phone to listen to on my runs all the while running all my running apps.  If you know me and my charities, I love that my HTC One Remix can run multiple applications all at once without a hitch.  During my runs I am running Charity Miles supporting one of my favorite causes, Every Mother Counts as well as the Nike Run+ app supporting the (RED) campaign, a cause I have been involved with for years.  I love that I can support these two wonderful causes by doing something I was already doing, RUNNING.  Not only is this great for my health, but I feel good doing this too.  There is no rule that your miles can’t contribute to more than one cause!  It’s only made possible because I am able to run both apps at the same time.  Adding to the load this phone has to handle, part of my half marathon training is to keep accurate stats on my runs.  I do this with both RunKeeper and Strava.  I am still trying to figure out which one is better and can’t seem to part with either as they both offer similar but different stats.

For now, I just KEEP ON RUNNING!
