Alzheimer’s and You

alzheimers

I am ashamed to admit, despite being in the medical profession, my knowledge of Alzheimer’s is very limited.  In part as well culturally, in the Asian community, its an unspoken about disease.  Aside from being extremely hard to get the immigrant population to see a doctor when the first signs and symptoms begin to appear, it’s the nature of the culture to hide crazy auntie or crazy uncle.  It’s also one of anyone’s biggest fears in the aging process, am I losing my mind? Did you know that Alzheimer’s is the most common form of dementia and is not a […]

THE #ALLERGY DIARIES: You know it’s bad when…

Screen Shot 2012-09-16 at 10.13.05 AM

…you spend your beautiful Sunday morning off designing these: What are these you ask? There are ALLERGY ALERT CARDS.  I got the inspiration for them from the Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network website where they suggested making laminated index cards outlining you (or your child’s) specific allergies for safer dining.  Their sample cards were simple in design and allowed you to simply list your individual allergies.  Knowing now how complex one’s allergies can be, this ALERT CARD was sheer brilliance to me.  Not only did it alert the Chef to your allergies, but can also be educational as well.  Did […]

FINDING YOURSELF FRIDAYS: Girlfriends for Life #FYF

IMG_1160-2

The weekend is here again.  How was your week?  I had a wonderful week with a hiccup.  I worked a few days and I spent the rest of the week really enjoying my children.  It’s hard to believe that school starts next week.  Where did the summer go?  I’m glad I got the chance to spend some real quality time with them.  I’ve started to prioritize and organize my life a little more.  I’ll get into that in a few weeks.  This week I want to talk about the value of girlfriends in our Finding Yourself Fridays series. Last week, […]

GIVEAWAY: It’s Back to School with TJ Maxx & Marshalls!

photo3

Oh we’ve definitely fallen in love with TJ Maxx and Marshalls this summer.  I use to loath places like this.  I envisioned piles and piles of clothing in no particular order, complete dismay.  It wasn’t until someone phrased it to me as a treasure hunt recently that I understood.  You have to treat me like someone with a pathological fear.  I must absorb it in increments, or in this case section by section.  What better place to start than the brand spankin new TJ Maxx that opened up recently in Ridge Hill.  Have you been?  Ridge Hill is this awesome […]

FINDING YOURSELF FRIDAYS: Here’s to a better YOU and a better ME! #FYF

photo

So last week was all about changing things up.  This week I’m focusing on small steps that I’m taking to improve my health.  It’s not a fully committed workout routine, but like I said small steps. First things first, sit up straight.  Your mamma told you right.  Posture is important.  Not just for the health of your back but also for your attitude.  Sitting up straight exudes confidence.  It can do a lot for your mood.  Start making a conscience effort and you’ll notice just how much you slouch. The House of Derriere.  Take the stairs if you’re just going up a […]

THE ALLERGY DIARIES: Regulars

20120813-IMG_1356

The thing about allergies as complex as “M”s are, is that they are so unpredictable. My overreacting husband, who I often roll my eyes at when he’s actively searching for signs and symptoms of a reaction during and after every meal or activity, was on the money this time. Early on in the evening we took the kids to dinner at Boulder Creek. The site of one of his very first reactions to dairy. I noted during the meal that this was probably the first time we had come back to this restaurant since. We were taking a huge gamble. […]

Oh Where Oh Where has the Summer gone?

20120813-IMG_1356

Everyone seems to be echoing the same sentiment.  Where has the summer gone?  I had big plans this summer, a lot of them included many visits to the Bronx Zoo and the New York Acquarium.  Did that happen?  Nope!  Here we are now, having just gone to the Bronx Zoo for the first time this summer.  I almost wanted to kick myself.  First of all, it’s just a little more than 15 minutes from my house.  How is it that we don’t come here more often I asked.  The husband had no answer for me. I was excited though.  I […]

Toys Toys and More Toys!

DinoCollect

When it comes to buying gifts for kids, I’m often at a loss.  You think with 3 kids of varying ages – 8, 5 & 2 – I would have an inkling or at least an insight to what would make their cool toy list.   But I don’t.  I know what my kids have and what they don’t.  Beyond that… Nada.  When I walk into a toy store I am often overwhelmed.  Then comes in the experts at The Big Toy Book and the Sweet Suite at BlogHer! I got a chance to interact with so many amazing brands and […]
