Catching up on some old news…
I don’t know if I’ve even gotten into why I started GREENBABY-NYC.com and how it evolves… but the short story of it is that it began with my daughter Ava. From the moment I found out I was pregnant with her I wanted to do everything in my power to make sure this pregnancy took and that I would see a baby in my arms at the end of the journey. Part of the things I did to ensure a successful pregnancy was making environmental changes right away, start living a greener, cleaner lifestyle… I happen to have plenty of time on my hand since I was on bedrest for most of my pregnancy and did everything like changing the cleaning products used in my home, to scrutinizing the prenatal vitamins I was taking, to reading every book I could lay my hands on be that parent who was an expert on everything. What evolved was a need to share with other parents the things I was learning and could not find in one place. I could certainly find it in 10-15 places but it was too much even for a mom who had plenty of time on her hands. Every product in our store was carefully selected, tested and approved by me, by Ava or by her little friends. I still searched the 10-15 places which grew to over 100+ different places, online and on the streets all the time, you should see my google reader with over 1000+ articles each day for me to read. I look at the products other mothers or kids are drawn to, the things they want or need. Is it green? If not, could I find a green alternative? Some products were just a product of what I learned on the job as a new mom. I started out using non-bpa-free bottles before I knew about BPA – gasp! – and I microwave steamed sterilized too! – double gasp!! But I learned on the job. That’s how we wound up with ThinkBaby, Adiri and Green to Grow which fit my Medela Breastpump perfectly. One product lead to the next, every day was a new lesson learned, a new obssession gained. That’s how I happened on Shaklee and became an independent distributor. I kept coming across references on their products but never actually got my hands on the products to experience them first hand… until I got to host my Healthy Child, Healthy Home party. In that box full of goodies were samples from Shaklee’s Get Clean line. I was hooked… I had to have it for the store! Amazing products that work and cost effective, low waste, environmentally friendly! I was obsessed but disappointed I could become a (traditional) retailer. I was actually both sad and disappointed… but I still wanted more of their products and that’s how I became an independent distributor and haven’t looked back.
