Life in the Dreamhouse with Barbie #BarbieIsMoving

barbieAs my family and I contemplate our next chapter in our life, we’ve considered that it might include a new home.  So a bit of the #BarbieIsMoving campaign really resonated with us.  I never had Barbie dolls as a child, and obviously never had a Barbie Dreamhouse… but I ALWAYS wanted one.  We had a neighbor whose grand-daughter had every Barbie and the Dreamhouse to boot.  My sister and I LOVED when she came and visited her grandmother with her Barbie suitcase and everything else Barbie in tow.  Looking back, the 1980′s Barbie Dreamhouse was really something to behold and something still today that I would consider modern chic but it could never hold a candle to the 2013 Barbie Dreamhouse!

IMG_20130823_200118_686When it arrived at my house, my daughter was literally clapping with glee.  Granted I wasn’t home yet from work and I felt bad for my poor in-laws who were struggling to keep her from ripping the box open.  I came home to her greeting me at the front door asking me when she could open it.  She was so ready for it, she even had her Barbie Zipbin, with all her Barbies and their accessories sitting right next to the box.  Was someone ready to play or what?!  I decided that this would be a great lesson in patience and purging.  So before my little princess could have her Dreamhouse, I decided that her room needed to be spic and span clean, including a clause to get rid of a minimum of 10 toys she no longer wanted or played with.  What an incentive the Dreamhouse was!  She never cleaned her room and threw away broken toys so fast!  She even ate her dinner, sitting properly at the table, asking permission to leave the table and even brushed her teeth without being asked a dozen times.

IMG_20130825_214515_688Finally the big reveal!  With some help from Daddy, we had the Dreamhouse set up in no time.  Little Miss A was in awe of this 3-story 6 room pink palace.  Like most little girls, she quickly started setting up her Barbie’s new home in the “walk-in” closet, hanging all their dresses on the included hangers while Barbie and Ken hung out in the kitchen making a snack with their luxe pink appliances (or so the story goes according to Little Miss A).  She got such a kick out of the fashion elevator and wanted to know if our new house would have one of those too.  One can dream! Once the batteries were installed, even the Little Man was getting in on the action, dancing to the music in the bathroom and laughing at all the different sounds throughout the house. His favorite of course was the toilet flushing.  With over 50+ accessories included, but BYOB (Bring Your Own Barbie), there is countless hours of fun to be had just like the one my neighbor’s granddaughter and I did.

After all her travels, Barbie realized that Malibu is where her heart is and has decided to stay there in a newly renovated Dreamhouse!  Barbie’s brand new 2013 Dreamhouse is now available at Walmart and retail stores nationwide for every girl who has always wanted a Dreamhouse of her own: MSRP: $184.99.
