SPOTTED: Travel Tot Childproofing Kit

On this particular vacation we veered off of our usual favorite vacation destination chains and wound up in a delightful new little resort.  It had all the amenities of home, plus a pool, which is all this family needs to call it a vacation.  We had larger than usual accommodations, a two-bedroom suite.  So much room we didn’t know what do other than to play hide and seek with the kids.  They loved it!  Alas, walking in, aside from noting the size of the place, I noticed outlets everywhere!  My husband says it was no more than usual, but I thought there was at least 4-6 outlets along every wall and completely exposed for my finger-outlet-sticking loving infant.

A quick phone call to the front desk for some child-proofing equipment left me flabbergasted.  This touted family friendly resort did not have child-proofing equipment on hand for families with young children?
Was I so spoiled that I expect such things from a resort like childproofing?
Call me crazy, but I couldn’t even unpack before I dragged my husband and family to the nearest Target.  I wasn’t a crazy mom.  I just bought a $2 box of outlet covers.  But in hindsight, upon returning to the villa, I wished we had purchased cabinet locks as well.  Luckily that was simple enough to take care of.  I just took anything that look precarious out of the lower cabinetry and moved them to the top where they were unreachable.  Just to emphasize my point, we purchased a 30-count box of outlet covers and I had 4 left.

I just stumbled upon this and wished I had purchased something like this for our trip.  Travel-Tot’s Childproofing Kit provides families with an easy, temporary, non-damaging way to childproof hotel rooms, motel rooms, even grandma’s house! All items requiring application are fastened with non-damaging adhesive strips provided in the kit and components requiring no tools and can be installed in about 5 minutes.  They go on strong, and come off clean!  This kit in a handy storage kit comes with everything you need from: finger pinch guard, electrical outlet plug covers, foam corner guards, door knob cover, cord wind-up, sliding door lock, cabinet lock, multi-purpose straps, water thermometer, bandages, forehead thermometer, and “shhh, Travel-Tot sleeping” door hanger.

This kit is $24.95 and is available online at Travel-Tot.com.

Gosh, I never thought about babyproofing when on vacation. Will have to add that to our list.

It really depends where you stay. A reputable hotel chain usually has family accommodations like cribs, high chairs and outlet adapters.

It seems like that kit wouldn’t have been enough for all the outlets you had to cover but it’s a good start and good to have if you travel a lot.

When packing I don’t think this even crossed my mind. But child safety away from home is just as important.
